When schemes are delivered from the top down within a workplace, more often than not they prove to be a success.
For example, if a company’s senior leadership team encourages open communication, positive culture and recruits from a diverse talent pool, employees and teams will feel the benefits and follow the same thought process.
This can help to improve retention among existing employees when they understand their company’s purpose, for example a previous study by Gallup discovered that 71% of Millennials who understand their company’s mission plan to stay for at least one year. According to Priscilla Baffour, Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion at the international daily newspaper Financial Times (FT), this is particularly crucial when it comes to creating successful D&I schemes. She told HR Grapevine:
“The most successful D&I schemes have senior leadership buy-in and are aligned to a wider D&I roadmap that has been guided by employee data.”
