What does productivity look like to you? Is it producing a lengthy report well within the deadline period?

Is it replying to all of your unanswered emails within a two-hour time frame? Or is it even how quickly you can smash out a five-kilometre run?

Each person will likely have their own perception of what productivity looks like both inside and outside of work but, as highlighted in these examples, many of these productivity measures are linked to the time taken to complete the task.

Yet, while this may be a traditional way to measure it, a recent Fast Company article explained that using the primary scale of time or hours to measure productivity may not be the best way to gauge performance or output. For example, someone could be sat at their desk for hours but by the end of that time they haven’t achieved all that much.
