The world of work has dramatically changed over the course of just a few months, as employees have been forced to work remotely from their own homes, while huge numbers of staff have been furloughed in an attempt to keep businesses afloat.

These changes have come into effect following the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK, which resulted in Prime Minister Boris Johnson enforcing a nationwide lockdown to help curb the spread of the virus.

While the lockdown has had a devastating impact on several industries including retail and tourism – this month retailer Cath Kidston announced it would close all 60 of its UK stores, meanwhile Virgin Atlantic is frantically looking for funding in order to maintain the business –several other consequences could arise due to the current pandemic.

Due to restrictions on travel, the COVID-19 pandemic could see numerous issues surface regarding global mobility and immigration. For example, visa application centres are closed across the world, which has halted immigration, plus with social distancing measures in place, employers are no longer free to move their staff around to work in different countries or cities.
