In the corporate world, everyone wants to be heard.
This doesn’t necessarily just mean attending important meetings or having the ultimate final say on company decisions. Being heard isn’t about literally being able to stand up in front of your team and say your piece, it means knowing that your presence and insight commands respect in those around you; it’s about knowing that when you hand down an order, someone will fulfil your request to the letter.
It’s quite possible, as many poor leaders will attest, to have a platform on which you’re free to express yourself, to have a captive audience sitting in front of you, but not have a single ear listening to what you’re saying. Your employees may simply be tuning you out.
However, whilst many would presume that they are doomed to shout into the void, there are a myriad of reasons why this may be the case, and if you’re going to solve this issue and return to a place in which you’re heard, you need to assess the below and troubleshoot your own situation.
