With coronavirus affecting all normal patterns of work and life, many are carrying worries that extend far beyond their usual employment stress.
This is hardly surprising. The constant slew of headlines on infection rates and new governmental rules advising against regular activities are enough to induce serious anxiety – and that can impact sleep.
“Everything that’s going on right now can make people more vulnerable to insomnia,” Dr Philip Cheng, told Henry Ford Health System’s online blog. “It’s a vicious cycle: when you lose sleep, your emotions can feel more intense. Your ability to regulate emotions can also become diminished, so existing stressors become more stressful, and the ability to calm down becomes more impaired.”
This, explained Vicki Field, HRD at London Doctors Clinic, is why it is crucial that employees get the rest they need – especially during a crisis such as the one that all are living through.
