With the UK Government advising the British public to abstain from venturing out to public places such as bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes, people aren’t spending money and many businesses are struggling as a result.
With less money coming into businesses, and heightened uncertainties around what the future will hold for employers, some staff have been laid off. Marriott International, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group and Compass Coffee are just some of the companies that have shed staff numbers due to the pandemic so far.
Others have been asked to take hefty pay cuts to help keep the organisation afloat. British Airways, Pret a Manger and TUI are just a handful of employers that have cut staff hours and wages amid the coronavirus pandemic.
