At some point in their careers, many bosses find themselves in a situation which is hard to mitigate; whilst the majority of employees respect your position as the boss and understand that with mutual respect, toeing the line between a pleasant relationship and rudeness can make the workplace a pleasant place to be for everyone.
However, some employees either find it hard to toe this line, or simply disregard it altogether. This is often the case with two groups of employees; commonly, it may be the case with newer employees who don’t yet understand the culture of the workplace or feel threatened by their superior, or it may well be the case that a more senior employee with many years of service under their belt who see themselves as irreplaceable feel the need to exercise this feeling by demeaning others, including the boss.
Work woes | Signs that your workers secretly hate you
This is the case that one anonymous boss found themselves in and turned to like-minded senior leaders on the message board Mumsnet for support and advice in dealing with the issue.
“[My employee] has been rude to me on numerous occasions. I have discussed this with them honestly every time and have been as fair and patient with this person. It has not made a difference. To be honest I'm really sick of bearing the brunt of the outbursts,” the anonymous boss wrote.
