Findings from 2019 revealed that companies within the public sector are still struggling to close the gender pay gap.

In fact, women are paid an average 86p for every pound to men, The Guardian reported. Meanwhile, according to the ONS in March 2018 the median pay gap was 14.1%, which was slightly higher than the 14% a year earlier. This is still below the national average of 17.9% across the public and private sectors.

These stats signify how much work is still required to ensure both genders are paid fairly and equally, however, one business that is trying to break the mould is the breakfast cereal manufacturer Weetabix. After recently sharing its 2019 Gender Pay Report, the company is pleased to announce that it has made huge progress in closing the pay gap. So much so that in 2019 it had closed its median pay gap by 2.1% (from 8.7% in 2018 to 6.6%).

Speaking exclusively to HR Grapevine, Stuart Branch, Group People & IT Director at Weetabix Food Company, has shared his joy in working towards reducing the gender pay gap.
