Diversity within some of the world’s biggest named companies is still a major issue, new research has discovered.
According to research shared by diversity and inclusion organisation INvolve, of the major indices of the UK, US and Canada, just five per cent of the CEOs are from an ethnic minority background.
Both the UK and US have five CEOs in the FTSE 100 and S&P 100, respectively, who are ethnic minorities. In contrast, Canada only has two CEOs listed on the S&P/TSX 60, which includes John S Chen, CEO of Blackberry, and Bharat Bhagwanji Masrani, CEO of Toronto-Dominion Bank.

The research found that of the five CEOs in the US who are an ethnic minority, none of them is from an African American or Latin American background. Elsewhere, in the UK, just one CEO of an FTSE 100 firm is black which is Arnold Wayne Donald, CEO of Carnival PLC.
