Leadership | You CAN'T be a good leader without THIS

You CAN'T be a good leader without THIS

The effect of a good leader on their team is dramatic; employees supervised by a highly engaged leader are 39% more likely to be engaged themselves, whilst 65% consider their boss to be the most essential gateway to further business success, according to Deloitte.

43% of workers state that feeling appreciated by their manager makes them more confident in their job, whilst 67% of Millennials would rather have a great boss than higher pay – according to Forbes.

Yet, whilst the data to show how essential it is to have a strong, reliable and thoughtful leader heading up a team, most leaders aren’t currently cutting the mustard. 32% of workers lack the confidence to share their ideas with their boss; 58% of managers state that they haven’t ever had any training, 82% of workers don’t trust their boss to tell the truth and a massive 79% of workers cite ‘lack of appreciation’ as the number one driver behind the decision to move jobs, according to MDA research.

So, what needs to be done? Whilst many companies obviously need an overhaul in their development and leadership pipelines, much of the onus falls on the individual to ensure that their skills and leadership qualities are where they should be. This requires regular introspective periods of honest and open self-analysis, as well as a well-rounded policy of discovering what their employees think.
