Perks at work are a proven incentive to retain employees and attract new talent into the workplace; whether it is flexible working options, free gym memberships or help with childcare, employees want to feel appreciated by their organisations.

One benefit that has cropped up more recently is the notion of unlimited holiday. This type of leave allows employees to take as much holiday as they want throughout the working year, allowing them to be in charge of their own time off.

So much so that jobs board Reed saw a 20% increase in jobs offering unlimited paid leave between 2017 and 2018, while TotalJobs and Jobsite also witnessed a 10% increase year-on-year, the BBC previously reported.

While this work perk has proved popular among employees, it seems that the introduction of unlimited leave has caused a bit of a headache for many business leaders.
