What kind of boss are you? Are you a strict taskmaster? Do you feel invested in your team? Are you a pushover, or too friendly with your employees? More importantly, are you effective? Do people listen to you and take you seriously?

Unfortunately, most bosses have absolutely no idea how they’re seen by their employees. Whilst some may argue that how their employee sees them isn’t important, statistics released by CNBC, Deloitte and Worklife reveal that actually, how a boss is viewed can affect everything from productivity, worker wellbeing, turnover and even top-line company profits.

If you’re a bad boss and you don’t know it, you could be costing your company thousands, ineffectively leading teams and not even be aware of it. Therefore, knowing how employees feel about your leadership is essential.

But how do your employees feel about you? Well, a new study of 28,000 workers by Cass Business School, University of London, ranked the qualities of their managers on a scale of one to five in fields such as providing feedback, being respectful, offering recognition and getting the job done. The cut-off for poor leadership was a score of three or lower, giving the researchers the parameters to ascertain where bosses were going wrong.
