Millennials – those who were born between 1981 and 1996 – have long attracted the attention of the media and have garnered a somewhat negative reputation having previously been labelled as ‘snowflakes’, selfie addicts, being self-entitled and more interested in technology than anything else. This, sadly, in some instances has caused employers and recruiters to be wary of this younger generation.
One particular reason this could be put down to is the Millennial’s tendency to job hop. Research carried out by the Open Study College of 2,000 UK based professionals discovered that by the age of 34, the average Millennial will have worked for six companies, while those nearing retirement will have worked for an average of seven throughout the entire duration of their career.
While the stats prove that Millennials are happy to seek work elsewhere if they are not completely satisfied, this younger generation has also proven to be more demanding when it comes to their wants and needs. So much so that data from Generation Flex found that 80% of Millennials no longer want to work in the traditional office space, with 67% claiming that they would leave their role if flexible options were not available.
