In decades past, it was not just conceivable but also widely expected that a professional may well opt to stay with their employer for the entirety of their career.
And there was basic logic in this; if a worker had invested countless hours of time and effort into their role, had worked their way up the career ladder and built a fine reputation within the company, why should they look to go elsewhere?
Yet this kind of thinking is almost unthinkable for younger generations, for whom a career change comes on average ever four years, according to new research by the Open Study College.

And whilst a four-year tenure at a company may be the new norm, younger workers can expect to work for a vast host of companies throughout their career; the study of 2,000 UK-based professionals also found that by the age of 34, the average Millennial will have worked for as many as six companies, compared to those currently nearing retirement, who worked for an average of seven throughout the entire duration of their career.
