It’s one of the most torturous questions leaders ask themselves constantly; am I benefitting my career path by staying where I am, or should I be moving on?
The relevance of job switching can’t be underestimated; according to Gallup, 21% of Millennial leaders stated that they’ve changed roles this year to get ahead – this is three times higher than those from other generations, and only half of all Millennials in senior positions plan on being in the same role within the next 12 months.
And the career habits of younger leaders aren’t a coincidence; strategic business icon and Author Seth Godin stated in his book The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick), that winners are essentially smarter quitters, who quit often, and for strategic purposes.
Resignation | Best (and worst) reasons for quitting your job
“It’s better to just start the things that you know you have the resources to finish,” he told the New York Times. “You don’t want to be surprised by the hard parts, you want to expect the hard parts,” Godin added. “The challenge we have is how we’re going to find the effort and the resources to break through.”
