Redundant | Is your business leaving you behind?

Is your business leaving you behind?
Is your business leaving you behind?

The list of factors that differentiate a good leader from a poor leader is long and often completely depends on cultural fit.

For example, just because a young visionary like Elon Musk is considered to be within the cream of his respective peers within the tech innovation industry, his leadership style may well prove to be devastating when applied to a bank.

Yet there are some core functions that all leaders must conform to. Ultimately, leaders must have a broad and overarching view of both the people that they manage and the industry in which their company trades, they must have an understanding of finance, human resources and sales, and they must be an effective go-between for those who operate beneath them and the Board.

These are the basics of the leadership function, yet they do not define the success or failure of leaders. It’s possible, or even inevitable, to uphold all of the age-old essentials of holding an managing director or C-Suite title and still find yourself completely left behind by your business. Why? Because you stopped developing in other areas. It’s a common trait that, when a leader reaches the top of their career ladder, they simply stop putting in the effort to continue learning and developing. However, ironically, it’s exactly this time in which investing in learning and development is most crucial. As a result, the fast-paced and often shifting business world continues to move on, and you’re left behind – waiting to be a redundant figment of the past.
