“Culture is such a massive beast, isn’t it?” probed Vicki Russell, Head of HR at Instantprint in an exclusive interview with HR Grapevine. If you think about it closely, in many respects Russell is has a point.
The main point that Russell is trying to make is that there are many different aspects that make up and influence an organisation’s culture. From core values to communication, a commitment to employee wellbeing and comradery, there are many elements that contribute to a successful company culture. Given that positive company culture can underpin employee retention, workplace productivity and ultimately the bottom line, employers would be wise not to undermine its importance.
Instantprint is a firm that has recognised the importance of culture. As a company which started off with circa 60 employees back in 2012, Russell said that the firm has grown to emloy more than 400 employees. “We’ve done really well to maintain that same culture but now I think we’re getting to that pivot point where, if we don’t really focus on it, we are going to lose who we really are,” she explained.

As the firm expects to expand its 400-strong team by ten per cent and invest a wealth of money into new technology, a lot of growth is on the cards in the near future. Therefore, the firm has turned its attention to re-focussing corporate culture to ensure all of the good aspects are bottled up and not lost as they transform and expand.
