Our careers are littered with barriers to success. For example, like all leaders who value their lives away from their careers, we must all find an equilibrium between our work lives and our home lives. The temptation to work long into the night to get a project finished may be strong – as is the need to be seen as a reliable and productive professional, yet when other elements of life fall by the wayside the results can be catastrophic. Even the most hardened of professionals would surely conclude that time with loved ones is more important than finishing that last report.
Similarly, it can be frustrating to concede that as humans, we are all susceptible to exhaustion, physical ailments and mental illness. Whilst balancing our professional and home lives, we must also balance our own wellness, and sometimes make the difficult decision to prioritise your own health over your workload – however unnatural this may feel.
