Unspoken etiquette is at the heart of a harmonious office environment.
Co-working is much like co-habitation in that professionals spend the majority of their waking hours in each other’s company; by being polite, cleaning up messes and not obstructing business, all workers can get along and make the day more pleasant for those around them.
However, some rules do have to be enforced. For example, following health and safety guidelines are essential to ensure that the business is even operating legally, whilst creating rules to ensure that all workers have a fair opportunity to receive upskilling or use holiday allowances benefit everyone by offering structure and guidelines.
Some businesses, however, see the implementation of rules as a way of moulding those under their employment into their image. This short-sighted approach often only leads to confusion and outrage, as evidenced by a Reddit thread in which professionals shared some of the most absurd rules they were expected to follow in the workplace.
