For many years, the recruitment process has remained quite stagnant.

Job hopefuls either posted or emailed their CV and covering letter in the hope of impressing an employer or recruiter. Then the wait to be invited to an interview (or politely rejected) was on. But in a digital era, there has been subsequent noise about whether this traditional recruitment process still works. And in the eyes of the younger tech-savvy generations that are entering the workforce, it seems that they have other ideas about what the recruitment process should entail.

This is backed by stats; according to Twitter research, a large portion of 18 to 24-year-olds are ditching traditional, long-winded job applications and approaching employers on social media because it is quicker and more accessible for them to do so. Around half of those surveyed opted for Twitter as their preferred method when applying for jobs rather than submitting a written CV.

While candidates are largely still required to provide some form of CV to document their career history, skillset and level of education to help employers differentiate between applications, it is not to say that the traditional CV structure is still the best way of attracting fresh talent. Employers are now using the internet as a way to strengthen their recruitment strategy.
