Trying to simply keep calm and carry on when you have an inkling that your boss is trying their hardest to squeeze you out is inevitably an impossible situation.

Whilst logic may well dictate that if you’re doing a bad job, you’d go through a process of warnings and KPI targets before ultimately being able to prove your competence, the harsh reality is that lots of workers aren’t pushed out simply based on their performance.

There are thousands of poor managers in the workplace with all sorts of motives for trying to oust staff; from feeling like top performers are a threat to their success, to simply not liking an individual, it’s likely that at least one individual in your professional circle will have been the target of an attack at some point in their careers.

And if the boss is aware that the ousting is completely unjustified to anyone but themselves, the chances are that they aren’t going to give the poor worker the chance to justify themselves. Instead, they will attempt to make working life as hard as possible – essentially ‘squeezing them out’.
