There are a number of reasons employees may choose to exit a company; they might no longer feel challenged, they may be seeking better career opportunities, or they simply may like to embark on a new career.
Whatever the reason may be, there are now ways in which employers can predict when a worker might quit.
Harvard Business Review has shared its latest research focusing on using big data and machine learning algorithms to develop a turnover propensity index for individuals. The company then grounded the development of these predictive outcomes in academic research on turnover and carried out a series of studies.
Working alongside a talent intelligence firm to gather a sample of publicly available organisational data on potential turnover shocks (these include events that prompt people to reconsider whether they should stay with the organisation), the company was able to identify individuals more likely to leaving a company.
