New mental health campaign goes viral

A new social media-based campaign by health platform Made of Millions has gained the attention of workers worldwide. The campaign, entitled #dearmanager, aims to start real, specific and honest mental health awareness conversations between managers and employees in workplaces across the globe.

The #dearmanager hashtag was created to offer a supportive community for workers to start a dialogue about their mental health issues, with the aim of creating more clarity around such issues within their workplaces. According to research conducted by Made of Millions, 44% of adults claim that their stress has increased over the past five years, whilst 56% of employees say that stress and anxiety impact their job performance.

Mental health is also one of the largest contributing factors for workplace sickness, with 62% of respondents attributing missed work days to a mental condition.

"We believe that while it's ultimately company leadership that influences widespread change, it takes everyday people speaking up for those in power to pay attention. We're hoping to spark an employee-led movement that does just that," commented Made of Millions’ Lauren O’Shaughnessy in conversation with Happiful.
