With news this morning that Amazon has topped LinkedIn’s top companies’ list, some will be slack-jawed with shock.
Over the past couple of years, the internet retailer has attracted a fair bit of scrutiny regarding the conditions that workers at the firm’s warehouses endure.
Accounts include workers collapsing on shift, some urinating in bottles because they’re too scared to take a break and managers giving out 7p sweets in attempts to improve floundering morale.
One UK investigative journalist, James Bloodworth, even wrote a book based, not insubstantially, on his self-reported ‘terrible’ experiences working in one of the company’s warehouses.
