Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been confirmed as the permanent manager of Manchester United after a successful stint as an interim – so what can HR and recruitment learn from his hiring?
Whilst this will be of great interest to football fans across the globe, there is a definite lesson for those in charge of talent acquisition and strategy.
In Manchester United’s case, hiring a manager on an initial interim basis allowed them to test if that person was the right person for the job long-term or if another candidate should be considered.
Whilst few expected Solskjaer to become a permeant hire – common consensus is that he was brought in to steady the ship after results under previous Jose Mourinho went south – his temporary appointment almost acted as an extended interview in which he could prove his worth.
