With many High Street retailers coming under pressure to embark on cost reduction drives, some may be tempted to cut their recruitment costs and take on staff as cheaply as possible.

However, the growing focus on creating a positive customer experience means it is becoming even more important to have the right staff on board.

That's according to Ed Hussey, Director of People Solutions at accountancy firm, Menzies LLP. Speaking to HR Grapevine, he explained that as a retailer, to attract and retain ‘wow’ staff, retailers must create a workplace and culture that people want to work in and be part of. 

"Authenticity is key," he said. "In order for staff to deliver a memorable experience which encourages loyalty, they need to feel that the company is doing the same for them.
