Undoing years of oppressive patriarchal attitudes, often cited as hindering women's progression, is complex, although there has been significant progress.
For example, several movements this year centred around improving gender equality, from forced measures through gender pay gap reporting, to the #MeToo movement rippling through businesses, prompting employers to reinforce their commitments to women, questioning their biases when it comes to hiring, promoting and setting out fair policies.
However, recent cases highlight that, despite the progress several employers are comitted to, with top firms introducing measures to ensure women's representation improves, outdated mindsets still manifest. Some still believe they have agency over women’s bodies whilst others think it's acceptable to call female worker's abilities into question.
