Aside from the obligatory office sweepstake, #itscominghome posters decorating the staff loos and the endless office chat about the legend that is Harry Kane, is it possible that the World Cup is taking over the office?

More than 24million Brits reportedly tuned in to the nail-biting penalty shootout between England and Colombia last Tuesday, this worldwide ordeal is proving to be very important to Brits across the country - and the obsession is creeping into the office.

This poses many questions to HR about whether or not they should encourage employees to join in on the World Cup hype or stick to their professional roots during working hours.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) recently called on company bosses to avoid “acting like killjoys” and enable staff to work flexible hours so that they were able to catch any World Cup games being shown within normal working hours.
