Is it time to stop basing hiring decisions on 'cultural fit'?

Despite the recent focus on hiring for cultural fit, the term and how to implement it is baffling recruitment teams.

According to research from recruitment technology firm ThriveMap, 96% of HR leaders said that recruiting for cultural fit was crucial, but only one in ten are satisfied with how they hire for it.

One of the main concerns is that companies are mistaking cultural fit with gut instinct. Over three-quarters (77%) of the companies surveyed admitted to using gut feel when assessing candidates in their recruitment process.

Other ways organisations are attempting to tease out whether a candidate fits culturally is by using targeted interview questions (92%) and getting multiple people to interview candidates (15%). However, 89% admitted that they needed to improve their processes.
