Recently, an email hacking virus targeting HR departments hit the headlines after it forced professionals to pay a ransom or lose all their files.
According to a report in The Inquirer, a ransomware called GoldenEye targeted HR departments with fake job applications.
The email scam started with a relatively normal looking job application with two files attached – one file being a CV, the other something more sinister.
After the user clicks ‘Enable Content’ – allowing the files to be downloaded, the second file contains malicious software, which encrypts files on the user’s PC and denies the victim access.
