Woodstock, hippie culture and The Beatles; they all transport us back to era that evokes a strengthening of the youth, mistrust of politicians and the fight for peace and freedom – sound familiar? Well, the Victoria and Albert Museum are exploring those familiarities, and how the movements of the late sixties have shaped the way we live today and think about the future.

The sixties not only brought psychedelic fashion, music and culture – but significant changes were made for women with the rising prominence of Feminism. Women gained more independence by entering the workplace, and the freedom bought by the contraceptive pill allowed them to have lives past the home. Furthermore, The Women’s Liberty movement went on strike for equal pay in 1968 at a Ford factory in Dagenham. By 1970, the Equal Pay Act was passed.
