More 'junk' jobs and unemployment predicted for 2017

A new report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has forecasted rising unemployment rates, more “junk” jobs and worsening social inequality.

Coupled with rising automation, increasing workplace transience and more intense competition for jobs, this could prove to be an ongoing headache for HR in 2017.

With precarious work – highlighted in cases brought against Uber and Deliveroo – come very new types of workplace disputes.

However, there is some positive news: in developed countries – across Northern and Western Europe, as well as North America – unemployment is expected to fall, the ILO’s research claims.
