Heathrow Airport's People Director: 3 ways HR can influence

Ideas are one thing, but influence is vital – especially within the people function of a business that is going through growth or change.

HR leaders may be able to formulate revenue-generating change programmes that can turn a business around, but without influence these ideas can fall upon deaf ears.

For Heathrow Airport, change is certainly afoot with the pending expansion. Becky Ivers, People Director – Expansion at the London-based airport, says: “I don’t like describing myself as an HR person, because I see myself as a commercial person that focuses on the people part of the business. I like to ensure the business strategy gets developed and the area that I’m accountable for is People.”

But she wouldn’t be able to lead the business to deliver its full priorities without a level of influence at the top.

Ivers, who will be speaking at HR Grapevine’s annual event ‘The Magic of HR’ in March 2017, gives her three ways HR professionals can gain influence on the next page.
