HR on the weekend: A Monster Calls, Beatrix Potter at V&A and Ed Sheeran's album

Attend - Beatrix Potter's London, Victoria and Albert Museum

Marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter (1866-1943), this exhibition at the V&A showcases the influence London had on the late author and illustrators work. Often, Potter went to the museums of London, including the Natural History Museum, to help her develop her artistic flair and depict animals through her life-like drawings.

If you don’t have time to pop to the V&A, why not pick up a new book? And not the type you always go for - select something that will challenge you. Employers should be encouraging employees to learn something new, with one way to retain vital talent being to ensure that opportunities to learn are present. A recent survey from the Institute of Management at the University of St Gallen found that Millennials would prefer to be in a job that has good opportunities for personal development (55%) over having a senior position (30%).

Speaking to Debbie Moore, Group HR Director at ISG, she emphasises the importance of encouraging employees to develop new skills: “We feel a strong sense of responsibility to identify specific talents and those employees with future potential to progress within our 2,800 strong network. Identifying this talent is only the first part, the crux of the challenge is then encouraging and empowering these individuals to act as valued advocates for the company and to help them realise their potential.
