HR Grapevine Advent Calendar: Alphabet donates $30m of staff Christmas gifts to charity

Google is not one to do Christmas lightly, as employees working for them in past years have been treated to some extravagant and extraordinary gifts.

Fortune reports that in previous years staff at Google have been given Nexus phones, smartwatches and even Chromebooks as a festive treat – however, this year staff at Alphabet - the parent company of Google - have been informed that they will not be receiving Christmas gifts, and that instead they will be donated to charity.

Fortunes reports that Alphabet have supposedly donated $30million worth of technology and technology support to schools on their workers’ behalf.  

HR Grapevine recently reported that staff at BBC Plymouth are having a difficult time getting into the Christmas spirit, after it emerged that staff were told to borrow workplace Christmas decorations, such as a battery powered Christmas tree or a star, from a ‘festive loan’ area – and then return them to cut costs – Daily Mail Online explained.
