5. Adopt ongoing performance management

“Internal mobility is best supported when managers and employees have the tools and resources to regularly discuss development. Ongoing performance management where employees regularly check in with managers and review progress towards learning and development goals, is far more effective than the traditional annual appraisal. This is particularly important when valuable new staff first join the organisation. HR departments that are successful at on-boarding can increase retention rates for new hires by up to 25%, according to a Booz Allen study.”
