Careers are no longer linear, predictable ladders; they are fluid trajectories.
In fact, a report released by the London School of Business and Finance showed that 47% of the UK workforce say they would like to change careers, but a fear of failure and the lack of financial security are barriers holding them back.
Adrian Batchelor, Academy Director at St James’ Place Academy, believes that businesses should consider offering outplacement services.
He explains why: “In past years, career changes were abrupt moves: you would resign and then be expected to immediately start building a new career from scratch. Recognising this, organisations are now starting to shift their focus on looking after their employees, even after a redundancy or resignation.
