The Tory government is facing something of a backlash, following a proposal that businesses could be made to disclose how many foreign workers they employ.
Amber Rudd MP made the announcement, revealing it as a key part of the Conservative’s drive to reduce net migration and encourage British companies to employ more British staff.
However, senior business leaders have thus far claimed that the plan would be a “complete anathema” to employers – The Guardian reports. One unnamed FTSE CEO told the publication that the proposal was simply “bizarre”.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has publically condemned the bill, saying: “Conservative party leaders have sunk to a new low this week as they fan the flames of xenophobia and hatred in our communities and try to blame foreigners for their own failures.
