Why John Lewis is setting the bar high when it comes to diversity

John Lewis has received national recognition, following fifteen staff achieving a level one certification in British Sign Language (BSL).

The store, which is based in the Vangarde shopping complex, has received a top training award after investing in staff to cater to North Yorkshire’s deaf community.

Employees at the store have formed a rota to ensure there is always a partner in store who can communicate with customers in sign language, YorkPress reports.

Staff were presented with a British Sign Language 101 accreditation from Signature - training specialists in signing for the deaf - which acknowledges that the store offers language services to its customers.
