The assessment landscape is changing, and there is clearly an appetite for new approaches, fuelled by technology as an enabler to make the assessment experience engaging and exciting in a way that wasn’t possible as recently as 20 years ago. Gamified psychometric tools, immersive situational challenges, virtual assessment hubs, smartphone-enabled assessments – both on offer to, and demanded by, the millennial generation. But however excited I am by these new possibilities, I never lose sight of the fundamental requirement of understanding what good looks like and what the assessment process needs to look like to fit with an organisation’s strategic aims, capacity and resources.
