Half of mothers feel discriminated against at work

49% of mums think employers discriminate against working mothers, a new survey has found.

Workingmums.co.uk’s 2015 Annual Survey found that only 12% of working mothers thought employers didn’t discriminate against working mums.

The survey emphasised the importance of flexible working to them – 58% selected it as the most important factor for their career progression, up six per cent from last year.

38% of those still on maternity leave would not resume employment if flexible working wasn’t guaranteed, but, despite its importance, 46% hadn’t yet discussed it with their manager. The right to request flexible working was extended to all employees last year, but it now has a less rigid timetable for employers, and no statutory right to appeal if a request is turned down.
