Social Media Manager. App Developer. Sustainability Expert. While these jobs are commonplace now, less than ten years ago they simply did not exist. And with the speed at which new technologies can go from a the drawing board to sitting in the palm of the consumers hand it can only be expected that the creation of brand new job roles will increase. But if in the future you find yourself in need of a Wearable Technology Director or Chief of Intergalactic Transportation, how can you find the right candidate if a talent pool doesn’t exist?
Look within
If you have got to a point where you are expanding or creating new roles, it’s reasonable to assume that your company has been successful to the point it is expanding. And the credit for the success should be going to existing employees, often making this a good place to start looking says Martha Desmond, Chief Human Resources Officer, Apollo. “If there is no existing talent pool then the only options available to the company are to either develop existing employees who have the required aptitude both intellectually and behaviourally or to recruit new employees who have relevant/transferable skills and the ability to adapt and learn about the new product.”
