A recruitment video made by P&O Ferries has emerged that promises would-be employees that being part of P&O is “[N]ot just a job, it's a career...It's family.”
The discovery of the video on social media, as reported in the Daily Mail, is a further embarrassing blow to the ferry company, which is currently embroiled in a PR fiasco after 800 employees were sacked last week over a Zoom call without any prior warning or consultation.
Given the summary nature of the sackings, the video’s claim that P&O Ferries is a “family”- shared a few months ago by P&O’s employment relations chief Stephen Nee - is certain to raise a few eyebrows.
To add to the humiliation, Nee also shared a comment from P&O on social media four months ago that boasts about P&O’s heritage and culture. It reads: “As we emerge out of the pandemic employers are talking about how we want to do things differently. At P&O we are looking to the future, we maybe [sic] a company that is 185 years old but we also have our eyes on how we are changing.
