Most organisations care about neuroinclusion. Far fewer have the practical systems to deliver it every day. Brain in Hand's new report reveals a gap between intent and everyday experience – we call it the missing middle.
Drawing on a six-month diary study with 18 neurodivergent employees, 20 employer interviews, and a survey of 995 senior HR professionals, the research shows where support breaks down. While 41% of HR professionals believe support is fully sufficient, only 31% of neurodivergent employees agree.
Line managers sit at the centre of this gap. They want to help, but 75% of organisations are concerned about manager overwhelm, and 84% of HR professionals admit staff avoid disclosing for fear of judgement.
The report sets out what closes the gap: support for the individual, capability for managers, and consistent systems across the organisation. It includes ten practical recommendations for HR and people teams ready to act.
