Apple is advancing on diversity, albeit slowly, according to Denise Young Smith, Global Human Resources Chief.
Speaking at Brainstorm Tech’s annual conference, Smith explained that Apple’s new report can be expected “sometime this summer” and promised that it shows real progress in recruiting diverse employees.
However, Smith warned the audience that change would take time, claiming that the "diversity challenge didn't happen overnight so it's not going to be changed overnight. The long-term aspect of it is what I hope people start to really internalize and understand."
Young Smith also promised that the report would show more transparency than in the previous years, noting that 35% of recent recruits have been women, and that the tech giant has also marked an uptick in hiring African-American and Hispanic candidates.
