The deadline for implementing the EU Pay Transparency Directive passed on 7 June 2026. However, there remains significant disparity in progress across member states in putting the Directive into effect. While the Directive provides requirements at a high level, delays have arisen as individual countries interpret and embed these into national legislation alongside existing legal frameworks.
What the EU Pay Transparency Directive requires
The aim of the Directive is to foster a culture of pay transparency and address gender pay inequality. However, delays in implementation from most countries have led to uncertainty and confusion for employers – particularly those operating across multiple jurisdictions - while national interpretations are finalised.
