1. You address women in unprofessional terms
Whilst you might think that using ‘love’ or ‘chick’ is harmless, they’re condescending nomenclature – especially if you wouldn’t refer to a male colleague or superior as ‘mate’ or ‘kid’. Try formal language or referring to the person by their name.
2. You expect women to be submissive rather than dominant in the workplace
Expecting women to be submissive in the workplace is an antiquated worldview. Sometimes workplaces can get heated – especially if important strategy is being debated or creative differences need to be reconciled. If your colleagues are women – its 2018, of course some of your colleagues are – don’t expect them to back down on their views based on outdated gender hierarchies. Listen to their ideas as you would any colleague.
