1. Baked potato fire
About 35 years ago, a young female police officer colleague of mine was waiting to see the Superintendent, to be informed that she had completed her two-year probationary period.
It was mid-morning; she hadn't eaten and she popped a potato into the microwave to have a baked potato.
At that moment the boss's PA came and found her and said "He can see you now". She completely forgot about the potato, and was mid-interview with the boss when the station fire alarm went off. The kitchen in the police station was on fire.
