How to keep your staff motivated over summer

1. Incentivise employees

“A great way to encourage your employees to stay motivated is through competitions with the promise of prizes and awards for the winner,” claims Eastwood. “Starting the incentive at the start of the summer is a great means of sustaining motivation both before and after the holiday break.”

She also suggests quarterly competitions, over annual ones: “Judging people’s performance over a year is likely to exclude new starters whereas quarterly programmes for new joiners, contractors and temporary staff, such as the best quarterly performer or the best newcomer, ensures everyone can be engaged in the competition.”

A good way of mixing things up for your staff is to change the groups they compete in, this will help to boost their performance and motivation. You can also encourage people to compete against themselves by comparing their results with the last quarter.
