Politician's workplace Ramadan comments spark backlash

A Danish politician has been criticised for advising Muslims against working during Ramadan.

Integration minister, Inger Støjberg, said that the month-long daylight fasting period poses safety hazards in some professions, stating that Muslims working during the period are “dangerous for us all” – The Guardian reports.

According to her post, published in Danish tabloid BT, Støjberg used the example of bus drivers to showcase how Ramadan could affect worker performance and public safety. She urged all Muslims to take leave from work during Ramadan “to avoid negative consequences for the rest of Danish society.”

However, her comments have received criticism, with Finnish Muslim Union Chair, Pia Jardi, saying the minister’s suggestions are “a completely absurd idea.”
